To be honest, I didn’t always “get” affirmations. “If you’re already strong and confident, why do you need to stare in the mirror and repeat that to yourself?” I thought. But when we’re programmed to look outwards to define what we want, how we should be, what qualities of ourselves are acceptable vs unacceptable, it can be so easy to abandon your Self. This is why affirmations have become so important in my life. In a world where everything is uncertain and can change in the blink of an eye, the only constant we have is ourselves. And the stronger the connection you have, the more adaptable and less susceptible to outside pressure you will be. Affirmations are divine reminders that we can do hard things. That we can trust our hunches. That we can stop living life for others. That we can fully embrace the parts of ourselves we keep hidden. That we are the alchemists of our own lives. One of my favorite tools for working with affirmations? You guessed it: the Enneagram. The Enneagram provides a clear pathway to growth. It helps you come face to face with your emotional patterns and conditioned beliefs so you can wake up to your full, actualized self—and all the power you have within. So! These affirmations are based on each type’s virtue and healing messages. The virtue is how each type operates in higher emotional awareness, representing our truest and most authentic selves (aka the path to growth). The healing messages are what each type longs to hear to free themselves of the unconscious messages they received growing up that impact how they show up in the world. I love to hang my affirmations in a private little nook in my apartment and read them to myself in the morning. Whether you choose to keep these on your desk, hang on the wall, or cut them up into cards, I encourage you to use them in a way that feels best to you.
